If America did not exist ..
I do not know if the world is better off without the deposed Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Yes I know, however, that some people think it would be better off without the United States, at least in its latest version, with George Bush Jr. in charge of their destinies. Imagine for a moment, however, a world in which America did not exist. In this scenario, the Berlin Wall probably still subsist. But that's not the most important. The U.S. has been, and are the economic engine of the world and a promoter of democracy and human rights. Without it, would have stalled world trade and GDP of many countries would be half the current. The research and scientific development recede 50 years the vast majority of Nobel Prizes in science are Americans, and the UN would not even exist in its current form, largely financed by Washington and accepted in U.S. territory. Probably there would be no conflicts of today, of course. But instead Adolf Hitler could have won World War II, with its disastrous consequences. Without going back so we do not know if the latent conflict between India and Pakistan, Turkey, Greece and Ecuador and Peru, for example, would not have ended in devastating wars.
The most plausible of all would have been considerable setback for democracy and human rights in the world at the hands of tyrants and freedom-lacking the international benchmark for a strong democratic state. Europe itself would have lacked sufficient stimulus for their union, their development and the continued expansion of their freedoms. All this is just a hypothesis, a simple political game. But whomever committed, whatever its ideology, will not find very different results from those presented herein.
